Known for his no-nonsense approach to pizza rankings, Portnoy visited several shore spots in the batch of reviews dropping this week, drawing crowds of excited customers and loyal fans eager to see how their local favorites would fare.
Here’s how the latest stops stacked up:
Tramonto's Pizza (Ocean Township, NJ) – 7.7
Portnoy praised Tramonto’s for its good texture, no flop, and crispy thin crust—all elements he loves in a slice. The score? 7.7. The verdict? “We’ll take it,” the owner said, watching alongside staff and loyal customers.
Pizzeria Lucci (Belmar, NJ) – 8.3
After multiple attempts to visit when it was closed, Portnoy finally got a chance to try Pizzeria Lucci—and it did not disappoint. With five guys running a professional-looking shop and a great undercarriage, Lucci pulled in an 8.3, one of the highest ratings on this trip.
Romeo’s Italian American (Freehold, NJ) – 7.4
Before even taking a bite, a customer approached Portnoy and whispered, “This isn’t going to be more than a 7.2.” While the review wasn’t off by much, Portnoy ultimately gave Romeo’s a 7.4, crediting the owner for being a nice guy.
Pizza Ria (Manchester Township) – 7.3
Portnoy called this a "football pie"—the most classic, basic, doughy pizza you'd find at a birthday or graduation party. The final score? 7.3.
Last week, Portnoy visited Paci'dough, which he scored an 8.2, helping the restaurant sell out in the days after his review was released.
